In this blog post, we will explore the differences between ChatGPT and Google’s Apprentice Bard and determine which one is better suited for different tasks. We’ll look at their underlying models, their ability to answer questions and their references to recent events.

What Is Google’s Apprentice Bard?

Google is working on a ChatGPT alternative dubbed ‘Apprentice Bard’. According to CNBC, Google employees have been testing an internal chatbot that works similarly to its OpenAI counterpart, allowing staff to ask questions and receive thorough responses.

Apprentice Bard is built off of LaMDA, Google’s conversational-focused large language model. Google’s version trumps ChatGPT in that answers can reference recent events.
Google staff observed that Apprentice Bard provides smarter responses over time. Google is prioritizing Apprentice Bard and related initiatives over other projects according to internal Google emails seen by CNBC.

Google is mulling a way to integrate this chatbot into its search engine.

The chatbot is a part of Google’s broader testing of AI-powered chat solutions, which should have an impact on upcoming product launches. Projects are kept under its “Atlas” unit, which represents “code red” activities for Google. Staff are also testing a Q&A tool for desktop searches.

Overall, Google’s Apprentice Bard has the potential to be a powerful tool for Google as it continues to develop its AI offerings and looks to challenge OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

How Do They Compare?

Google is working on an alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, dubbed ‘Apprentice Bard’, and it has become the talk of the AI world for its ability to mimic human-written text and generate code.

Google’s version trumps ChatGPT in that answers can reference recent events.

The Meena chatbot, which was being evaluated internally but was later cancelled, was replaced by LaMDA, Google’s conversational-focused big language model, which is the foundation of Apprentice Bard. Google staff observed that Apprentice Bard provides smarter responses over time.
In contrast to ChatGPT, Apprentice Bard’s underlying model is less effective at providing answers.

Since LaMDA was developed using dialogue data, it is capable of producing high-quality conversational-style responses but falls short of OpenAI’s competitor in terms of “understanding” complicated linguistic patterns.

Google staff are also testing another product, a search tool for desktops, that works in a question-and-answer style format. The real challenge lies in seeing how these two chatbots fare when pitted against one another in the AI market. As of now, it is unclear who will come out on top.

But one thing is for sure, Google and OpenAI are both working hard to ensure their respective bots are best-in-class when it comes to answering questions and providing useful information.
